Remember that you’ll need to give yourself a little longer to complete appointments as a beginner. However, as your experience and confidence grow, you’ll become much quicker at microblading eyebrows.

How long does microblading last?

Microblading involves using a handheld device to apply pigment to the skin. The pigment is applied in a way that imitates natural eyebrow hair strokes. It is a popular form of semi-permanent makeup.

How long your microblading treatment lasts will depend on various factors, such as the quality of the products used and aftercare. It also depends on your natural skin type. For example, some people have sensitive skin, dry skin or other skin types. On average, microblading should last between 18 months – 24 months.

After this time, the pigment may become lighter, and another treatment may be beneficial. Alternatively, you may offer a top-up appointment whereby a little extra pigment is used to help the client achieve their desired look.

Top-up appointments are usually offered six weeks after the initial treatment. This ensures that the client is happy with the finished look and allows you to add a little extra pigment anywhere that may benefit.

How long does microblading last on oily skin?

As we mentioned before, there are various skin types. Having oily skin is common. You can still have a microblading treatment if you have oily skin. People with oily skin typically have larger pores than those with dry skin.

Having microblading with oily skin means you may need more frequent touch-ups, as the initial results may last around the one-year mark.

How long does microblading last on mature skin?

Microbladed eyebrows can sometimes last longer on those with mature skin. This is because the skin tends to be drier, which means there is less oil and slower cell regeneration.

As a microblading artist, you need to have a good understanding of the different skin types and the best microblading techniques to use. For example, microblading on someone with oily skin may require you to spread out the strokes a little more.

Completing a microblading treatment on someone with mature skin means you will have to inform them that the healing process may take longer.

Does microblading hurt?

Whether or not microblading will hurt depends on pain tolerance; however, microblading shouldn’t be a painful experience for your client. Clients can sometimes feel pressure around the area or a small amount of discomfort. Before a microblading treatment takes place, a numbing cream is applied to reduce discomfort.

Microblading: How long does it take?

An experienced microblading technician may be able to complete appointments in around 1 hour to 1 hour and a half. However, this will also depend on the intended look.

For a recently qualified microblading artist, you can expect the treatment to take between 2 and 3 hours. Be sure to let clients know so that you don’t feel rushed.

How long does microblading last without touch-ups?

Microbladed brows don’t last as long without touch-ups. Without microblading touch-ups, brows can fade between 6 and 12 months after the initial appointment.

Top-up appointments aren’t just to maintain the microblading pigments. The appointment is also to assess client satisfaction and provide any corrections that may enhance the look further.

As an artist, you should be able to advise clients on how often they will require top-ups. For example, some clients may need yearly touch-ups, while others may need more frequent touch-ups.

Microblading aftercare

Ensuring that you follow the correct aftercare steps for microbladed brows will help them to last longer and speed up the recovery process.

As a microblading technician, you must ensure that each client leaves the appointment with a good understanding of eyebrow aftercare. In addition to verbally informing your client about aftercare, you should also create a leaflet they can take home after the appointment.

Here are some of our top tips for microblading aftercare that can help you to inform clients.

Keeping the brows dry

Following the microblading treatment, it’s totally normal to experience some scabbing around the brow area. This is a sign of the brows healing correctly. For scabs to heal, they should be kept dry. This can be tricky but can be achieved with care and avoiding long showers. Avoid getting the brows wet for at least five days after the procedure.

Try to avoid excessive sweating

This involves not going to a sauna or doing any extreme exercise for a few days after the microblading is complete. Avoiding these activities helps to speed up the microblading healing process.

Keep the area clean

This can be tough when also keeping the brow area dry, but it can be achieved in other ways, such as ensuring that bedding is clean. You should also ensure that your hands are clean if you do need to touch the brow area. This can help to reduce the risk of infections.

Some people experience some itching while the eyebrows heal. It’s important to try not to itch the area, as you may end up pulling the scabs off, which will prolong healing and could impact the look of your new brows.

Avoid direct sunlight

It’s best to avoid sun exposure after having your brows microbladed. This is because sunlight can affect the pigments used during the microblading process, causing the brows to fade faster. You may find that they become discoloured and, therefore, should avoid direct sunlight until they are completely healed.

Long-term microblading care

Microblading is a very popular eyebrow enhancement treatment due to its many benefits. It can increase confidence, create a more striking eyebrow shape and appearance, and it requires little care once the healing is complete.

Following the healing process, taking care of the brows is easy. We recommend encouraging clients to wear SPF every day, avoid chemical treatments and harsh exfoliants near the brows and use a good quality moisturiser.

These steps will help protect the brows and support them with retaining the correct colour pigment.

Your microblading results will likely be visible around 2 – 3 weeks after your microblading procedure. The healing time will depend on your skin type and aftercare. The brows can appear darker immediately after the treatment, but they will fade to the correct colour as they heal.
